Extreme dedication needed to become an elite Archer

Being a professional archer has been described as becoming a human machine.  Training is estimated at over 6000 hours to reach Olympic level and a rigorous 250 practice shots a day.  It generally takes over 6 years of practice and training so it’s best to start young.  Those who want to achieve elite levels in archery need to have a real passion and a love to get out and shoot more than anything else.  It’s not just shooting, but shot consistency. With each shot you must fine tune mental and physical ability to hit the target whilst learning and developing technique.  A personal coach is of high value to assist in techniques to develop perfect form and shot execution.  Archers must also be physically fit as there is an amount of strength and endurance required to compete at high levels. Be prepared for expenses too, with equipment and travel to events, membership and coaching fees.  But if this is your passion, it is all worth it and it’s less cost than many other sports. On the other hand, you may just want to do Archery because you enjoy it, and you can strive for your personal best whilst surrounded by encouraging people.  It is a sport that can be done by anyone at any age.  Attend a local archery club and have a go, see Try Archery in NSW   Indoor leagues are a good place to start as well.
